During a Mac OS X server training class I met Jose. He is a teacher that is also stuck with the roll of all in one IT department. Jose was taking the class to learn how to setup Mac OS X server on his schools brand new Xserve. I volunteered my time to help Jose setup a strategy to deploy his new server and prepare it for the Power school database software. Instructing Jose through email he got the server up in running on the internet. This allowed me to login remotely and setup some of the initial services like Open Directory, DNS, AFP, SMB, and backup for the system drive. I documented every step and took screenshots for anyone that may need to reproduce the setup. Below are illustrations of how the server was setup and an overview of the network.
